A bespoke chalet-style timber frame house built in Wix, Essex for private clients. Smart Carpentry supplied and installed the full timber frame structure along with structural studwork, engineered floor systems, attic trusses, oak framing and complete first and second fix carpentry throughout the property.

This project involved the complete construction and coordination of the build from the initial timber frame erection through to the final internal finishes, creating a high-quality countryside home tailored to the clients’ vision.

Timber Frame Construction

The build began with the construction of the full structural timber frame system, including external and internal load-bearing stud walls, floor systems and structural openings for large glazed areas.

The project utilised modern timber frame construction methods combined with traditional carpentry techniques to create a strong, energy-efficient and highly insulated home.

Structural Roof & Attic Trusses

We installed the complete roof structure including attic trusses and engineered floor systems to create vaulted internal spaces and maximise usable first-floor accommodation.

The chalet-style design required careful structural detailing and precise installation throughout the roof build.

Oak Framing & Hand-Cut Carpentry

Traditional oak framing elements were incorporated throughout the build, including a hand-cut lean-to roof over the oak-framed veranda.

These features added character and complemented the rural Essex setting while showcasing traditional carpentry craftsmanship alongside modern construction methods.

External Oak Cladding

The property exterior was finished using natural oak cladding, giving the home a timeless appearance that will continue to weather beautifully over time.

The combination of timber frame construction and oak detailing helped achieve the warm chalet-style appearance requested by the clients.

Complete Internal Fit-Out

Smart Carpentry also completed the internal first and second fix carpentry works throughout the property, alongside kitchen installation, solid oak flooring, floor tiling and coordination of plumbing, electrics, plastering and decorating.
